The DURST MM-78B is a professional automotive multimeter built for the modern workshop, from conventional engines to electric and hybrid vehicles. Safety rated CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V to IEC 61010-1, it measures up to 1000V DC and 750V AC, giving technicians a confident safety margin on high-voltage vehicle systems.
It is used in EV training, and is trusted by workshops, fleet maintenance teams and auto electricians. Vehicle-specific functions include RPM, dwell angle, injector pulse width and duty cycle, alongside autoranging voltage, current to 20A, resistance, capacitance, frequency, diode and continuity testing, and K-type temperature measurement to 1000°C.
A 6600-count display with analog bar graph, min/max, relative and data hold make fast work of intermittent faults. Need to measure above 20A? Pair it with the DURST MM-CA1000 1000A Clamp Meter. Engineered and supported by Durst Industries Australia.

MM-78B FAQ
Is the MM-78B suitable for EV and hybrid vehicles?
Yes. It is rated CAT III 1000V and CAT IV 600V, built for diagnostic work on electric and hybrid vehicle systems. Always follow the vehicle manufacturer's high-voltage safety procedures.
What does CAT III 1000V mean?
It is an IEC 61010-1 safety rating. The meter is designed to withstand transients on circuits up to 1000V in CAT III environments, and up to 600V in the more demanding CAT IV category.
Is it used for EV training?
Yes. The MM-78B is used in EV training at technical colleges, thanks to its CAT III 1000V rating and dedicated automotive functions.
What is the maximum voltage it can measure?
1000V DC and 750V AC. Never exceed these limits between any terminal and ground.
Which engine tests can it perform?
RPM from 600 to 12,000, dwell angle for 4, 5, 6 and 8 cylinders, injector pulse width from 0.1 to 10ms, and duty cycle from 5% to 95%.
How much current can it measure?
Up to 20A AC/DC for 30 seconds through fused inputs. For higher currents, use the DURST MM-CA1000 1000A Clamp Meter.
What battery and fuses does it use?
One 9V battery (IEC 6F22), about 75 hours typical. Fuses are F500mA 1000V and F20A 600V fast acting ceramic.
What warranty does it come with?
1 year, backed by Durst Industries Australia.
